Laura Colket, EdD

Dr. Colket earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, where she focused on international education, international development, practitioner inquiry, and educational leadership. She conducted her dissertation research in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, focusing on the experiences of leaders at the Ministry of Education as they worked to rebuild the education sector through the ongoing crisis.

Dr. Colket is an educational leader with a history of working in international contexts in higher education, as well as in primary and secondary education. Prior to joining SIT as associate dean for SIT Graduate Institute, she was associate professor at St. George’s University in Grenada where she designed and led a new Master of Education program and engaged in faculty development across the university as associate director for Leadership & Excellence in Academic Development.

Dr. Colket previously held a leadership position at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, where she taught across several teacher education programs, as well as the School Leadership Program. She began her academic career in Morocco, teaching undergraduate students as an assistant professor at Al Akhawayn University.

As a qualitative methodologist, Dr. Colket focuses on storytelling (and counter-storytelling), through narrative research and participatory, action-oriented and practitioner-led approaches to research. Her published articles focus on the connections between professional learning, inquiry, narratives, storytelling, and educational equity. A grant she received from the Spencer Foundation helped her to launch the Center for Research on Storytelling in Education (CRSE) with a nine-month virtual conference series. Through CRSE, she is engaged in research focused on collecting peoples’ stories of learning in service of supporting the professional growth of educators.

Dr. Colket’s edited volume, Becoming: Transformative Storytelling for Education’s Future, models an inquiry process for educators to reflect on and tell their own stories of teaching and learning in order to fuel personal, professional, and organizational transformation.
