Dustie Spencer, PhD

Originally from the United States, Dr. Spencer has studied, lived, and worked on three continents. Her passion for education and traveling began as an ESL teacher in South Korea. From there, she went on to study in London and Edinburgh where she lived for nearly a decade. She has most recently lived and worked as a professor in South Korea where she was involved in encouraging expats to vote from abroad.
After becoming certified as a teacher in the state of Florida, Dr. Spencer earned her PhD from the University of Edinburgh’s School of Social and Political Science. She focused on transnational activism and human rights campaigns in the South Asian diaspora. She spent four years as a visiting professor of global studies in South Korea, teaching interdisciplinary courses on topics such as international conflict, humanitarianism, and development. Her research was focused on the politicization of feminism in political discourse and obstacles to multiculturalism in South Korea. She joins SIT as a visiting faculty of research methods and human rights courses.
