Bishal Nath Upreti, PhD
Dr. Upreti is an academician at the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology. He is the former head of the Central Department of Geology and the Department of Geology at Tri-Chandra campus and the former dean of the Institute of Science and Technology at Tribhuvan University. He is also a Fellow and past council member of The World Academy of Sciences, and Foreign Fellow of the Zambia Academy of Sciences. Dr. Upreti was professor and head of the Department of Geology at the School of Mines, The University of Zambia, Lusaka. He also taught at Arba Minch University in Ethiopia. He was a visiting professor at IPGP/Paris University in France, the Jawahar Lal Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in India, a DAAD Fellow in Germany, and a JSPS Fellow in Japan.
He has authored and edited many books; published more than 100 research papers in national and international journals; and is credited with nearly 7,000 citations of on Google Scholar.
He has received national honors and a prestigious international award, the C.N.R. Rao Prize for Scientific Research from The World Academy of Sciences for his research in the Nepal Himalaya. In addition, he was awarded the highly prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the Geological Society of America, the Australian Leadership Award Fellowship, and Australia’s Endeavour Award Fellowship.
Dr. Upreti’s main research interests are structural geology and tectonics, engineering geology, paleoseismology, geohazards, and disaster management.
