About Student Services

A focus on student services helps SIT Study Abroad provide solid programs that are accessible to the widest possible body of students. Field based programs require strong advising to help students select the right program for their goals and abilities, and to them understand their responsibilities as a group member, as a student and as a guest in the local community and culture.

SIT Study Abroad reminds advisors and faculty that student services offices at home colleges and universities can both help prepare students for study abroad and provide remote support when necessary and desirable. Student Services can be, and should be, a partnership between SIT and the home school. Students accepted to SIT programs should be encouraged to work collaboratively with offices on their home campus, such as multicultural studies, GLBTQ support services, and disability offices, to ensure that they are accessing the widest range of resources.
