SIT Graduate Institute TESOL Certificate

Graduate Credit

Earn your TESOL certificate plus five graduate credits.

Are you considering pursuing graduate studies in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a related field after earning your certificate? Participants who successfully complete the SIT TESOL Certificate course can earn five graduate credits awarded by SIT Graduate Institute.

Consider how you would use the credits.
If you are interested in pursuing this option you should check with the Registrar's Office at whatever college or university you are attending or plan to attend. Of the five graduate credits, up to two may be applied toward SIT Graduate Institute’s academic-year Master of Arts in TESOL program, and these would take the place of the two one-credit electives. (Please note, it is not possible to apply any of the five credits toward SIT's low-residency Master of Arts in TESOL program.)

The SIT TESOL Certificate is graded on a Pass/Fail basis. Credits earned from SIT are transferable only at the discretion of the receiving school.

Decide and register before you take the course.
You will have a choice of whether to pursue graduate credit but will have to decide before the course begins. Regulations state that once the course has begun there is no reconsideration on the part of the SIT Registrar's Office.

If you wish to pursue graduate credit, you may register online.

Choosing the credit option means that you will pay an additional $500 fee for credit directly to SIT, and upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded five graduate credits. Ordinary payment method is by check, but as a convenience, we offer the choice of online payments with MasterCard, Visa, or Discover, including a flat convenience fee of $50 per transaction for payment of the registration fee.

In submitting the graduate credit application you indicate that you have chosen to take the course for graduate credit, and that you understand that if you change your mind or fail to complete the course credit requirements the cost of credit will not be refunded.

For more information please contact the training center at which you plan to take the course, or contact SIT Graduate Institute’s TESOL Certificate office by emailing Joyce Banford at joyce.banford@sit.edu or by calling 802 258-3312.
